Coalescing Agents

Coalescing- or film forming agents are used in water-based coatings to decrease the minimum film forming temperature (MFFT) of polymer dispersions. ADDAPT offers two types of coalescing agents, the conventional non-VOC coalescing agent ADDAPTOL™ DB and the polymeric coalescing agent BioWet™ PC.

ADDAPTOL™ DB is a non-VOC oxygenated solvent for use as a coalescing agent in water-based coatings. ADDAPTOL™ DB is also used in floor lacquers, coatings for concrete surfaces and other coatings where high performance is needed.

Proprietary mixture of branched esters of dibasic acids.

Benefits
  • Non-VOC
  • Nearly odourless
  • Higher efficiency compared to typical coalescing agents
  • Early block, rain, and chemical resistance
  • No labelling
  • Readily biodegradable

BioWet™ PC is a non-SVOC polymeric coalescing agent for use as a processing aid in waterborne systems to improve film-forming properties by lowering the MFFT.

Proprietary polymeric composition and amphoteric component emulsified in water.

Benefits
  • Shows good compatibility with dispersions based on pure acrylics, styrene/acrylics, vinyl acetate homo- and copolymers and alkyd emulsions
  • Lowering of MFFT
  • Non-SVOC
  • Nearly odourless
  • Excellent wetting and levelling properties
  • Improves wet scrub resistance
  • Improves mechanical properties
  • Improves early rain resistance
  • Post addition possible
  • “Winter-additive” for renders/plasters

Applications
  • Water-based coatings
  • Plasters
